General Items

  • Bible

  • Bedding—At least One pillow; two sets of sheets (extralong twin mattress); pillow cases; blankets, comforter.

  • Toiletries & shower basket with handle

  • Bath & Hand towels + wash clothes

  • Bathrobe, flip flops for shower

  • Soft-soled slippers

  • Study lamp

  • Studying/school supplies

  • Battery operated alarm clock

  • Wastebasket

  • Cleaning supplies and equipment for cleaning mirror, sink, counter, and floor in room—bring your own broom/dust pan

  • Laundry detergent (liquid) & softeners (if needed)

  • Command strips to hang things on the wall.

  • Wall décor (Fire code allows one to cover up to 25% of any wall in your dorm room)

  • Drinking glass for room and water bottle for school

  • Sleeping bag

  • Hangers

  • Umbrella

Clothing — based on the MBA Handbook

School clothes

  • T-shirts, Polos, & blouses

  • Slacks/Jeans with no rips, tears, or holes, shorts to the mid-thigh, skirts to the knee or below

  • Sweatshirt / Jacket (no hoodies during classes)

  • Shoes, sandals, boots

After School Dorms/Cafeteria

  • Athletic/sweat pants

  • Yoga pants or Leggings

  • Modest swimwear / One piece women swimwear

  • Pajamas

PE/Recreation time

  • Workout/jogging attire

  • Non-marking athletic shoes

Weekend programs / Church Services

  • Guys: Button down shirt, Tie, nice slacks, dress shoes; suits (optional for banquets and church services)

  • Girls: Skirts and dresses to the knee or below, dressy pants, dress shoes (No midriffs should show when bending over or reaching, All straps need to be approximately three finger widths wide, Dress fronts should NOT allow cleavage to show, Dress backs should stay above the bra strap line)

Furnishings

Student rooms should reflect the character and style of the student. At the same time they are to uphold MBA values by not displaying anything that devalues race, gender, religion, human life or lowers moral standards. Use 3M Command strips (no nails) to hang things on the wall. Rooms are equipped with two twin beds that can be bunked, two dressers, two desks, and window blinds. No additional furniture will be allowed into the dorm rooms. You may bring area rugs.

Appliances

Dorm fridges up to 33” in height are acceptable. Hair dryers and curling irons are allowed as well as hot pots and rice cookers with an enclosed heating element. No electrical blankets, toaster ovens, coffee makers, microwaves, or hot plates with an exposed element are allowed. Each room is provided with heat, so no other heating apparatus is allowed.

Technology

It is a privilege at Monterey Bay Academy for students to have a tech device in their room and students should know that this privilege can be revoked at any time at the discretion of the dean. To maintain your possessions, have respect for others by using headphones to keep your music to yourself and do not allow your grades to slip so you don’t have to hand over your devices. Devices NOT allowed: TV’s, game consoles (Xbox, Wii, etc), stereos with large speakers. All of your possessions should uphold MBA values and standards; inappropriate material is subject to confiscation.
